A little dirt and a little love
For the past few years I have been experimenting with a succulent garden in my backyard.
What started out as a few pots with clippings from friends and a few purchased succulents...
Quickly became a project of breaking up all of the hard dirt to plant and build our garden.
I am sure during this pain staking process of breaking up the ground with a pick axe and shovel Tom had to be thinking, "why did I agree to this?". I could also see a green thumb beginning to emerge from him at the same time.
Neither of us have any experience in planting and cultivating anything from childhood so we were excited to try something new together.
We began cultivating what will become our plant "nursery".
Quickly that "nursery" became a jungle and is still a jungle. It is a work in progress as I am learning not to keep everything! I have been enjoying using the different "Buy Nothing" groups on Facebook in my area to give away clippings, plants, etc. Then I don't feel so bad about getting rid of the nursery jungle.
Our first succulents went into the ground and immediately I thought, I am a gardener!!!! LOL... oh boy!
Slow down killer! You still have so much to learn.

Those succulents quickly multiplied into this.

Once you get the planting bug, you spend so much time thinking out what else you can get into the ground. You say yes to more clippings an act as if you have NEVR seen "THAT" succulent before so you buy it at the nursery. Oh Boy!
Eventually you have a beautifully growing garden.

What I have loved is being able to use this garden as my backdrop for my wine photos!

This year was especially bad with weeds overtaking my beautiful garden.
So I am currently pulling out any succulent that is not a Jade type tree already fully growing in the ground. I am potting everything so I don't have to deal with the weeds.
I had so much fun filming this video of Phase 1 of my garden project.
I hope you will love this video as well and choose to subscribe to my channel to see Phase 2.
A few shout outs to people who have helped me learn what I am going to work on.
If you have not heard of "Creative Explained" on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok you are missing out.
My friend and coworker Lara Blom has written a book.
You can get your copy right now on Amazon here.

I hope that this will inspire you to choose a project that you love in your backyard. If you have any space in your backyard, know that you are blessed.
You can create a beautiful space and feed your family as well.
Thank you all so much for your support and love!
